Located in central Jiangxi Province, Jinggangshan Biosphere Reserve harbors ancient vegetation known as a "Tertiary-type Forest" and is regarded as an important cradle of temperate–subtropical and part of tropical–subtropical flora in East Asia.
Designated by UNESCO in 2012, the reserve spans an area about nine times the size of Macau. It hosts the largest native broadleaf forest at 26°N, with warm, humid conditions and a natural transition toward tropical forest types.

Jinggangshan harbors over 3,700 species of higher plants, dominated by tropical and South Asian subtropical elements. Distinctive plant communities — such as large-fruited water chestnuts and tropical black cycads — give the area its nickname: the "tropical enclave" at 26°N.
Its forests also support a rich subtropical fauna, with nearly 500 species of vertebrates, more than 2,800 insects, and over 20 species of spiders.

Zong's odd-scaled snake (Achalinus jinggangensis), a native snake species primarily distributed in Jinggangshan region. The type specimen — used as the original reference for the species' description — was also collected here.
More than an ecological treasure, Jinggangshan is a living bridge between ancient forests and modern civilization — preserving biodiversity while bearing deep historical and cultural significance.
