SIMM Signed MOU with Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia
A signing ceremony via video conference was held on June 15, 2021, by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Republic of Serbia (MPN). During the conference, the two sides signed an MOU on education cooperation, which will strengthen bilateral scientific and technological cooperation. Besides, they will work together to develop new drugs from natural products which will benefit human health.
In 2019, the SIMM and the University of Belgrade jointly initiated the Pan-Balkan Alliance for Natural Products and New Drug Discovery (PANDA). This platform attracted researchers in the field of natural products and food safety from 11 countries in the Pan-Balkan region. In May 2021, the China-Serbia "Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory for Natural Products and Drug Discovery was approved to be set up by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People′s Republic of China.
Mr. Branko Ruzic, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the University of Belgrade and the SIMM since 2015. He expected that more Serbian students could come to the summer camps in China, or study here as exchange students.
