CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia

CAS Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (RCEECA) is an overseas research base and platform of CAS for serving the great demands on ecology, environment and informationization from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Silk Road Economic Belt Initiative, and for the cooperation of mutual benefits between Central Asian countries and China on the utilization of natural resources, ecoenvironmental protection and information technology of earth observation et al.

Led by Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, CAS (XIEG), jointly with seven institutes and university of CAS, Almaty, Bishkek and Dushanbe branches of RCEECA were established with Kazakhstan Ministry of Agriculture, Kyrgyzstan Academy of Sciences, Tajikistan Academy of Sciences, Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources. At present, each branch of RCEECA included joint laboratory, field observation & research network and information center. 

The RCEECA will train a high-quality talent team for comprehensive cooperation with Central Asian scientists of developing research on resources, ecology and environment in Central Asia, build a networking and massive database system, construct a remote sensing monitoring and early warning system for natural disasters in Central Asia, develop the integration and typical demonstration applications of advanced resources and environment technology.

The center will analyze the impacts of global change on resources, ecology and environment from different scales in Central Asia, publish a series of research achievements in the world, providing decision and advice for the joint protection of ecological environment with SCO in Central Asia. The RCEECA will become an important platform for the "go global" of science and technology, talents and enterprises in the Silk Road Economic Belt, and the main force leading the research of resources and environment in Central Asia.
