Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences for Central Asian Drug Research and Development takes the research and development of natural medicines with regional characteristics as the core, relies on the “National key Laboratory Cultivation Base for the Utilization of characteristic Medicinal Resources in Xinjiang" and "National Pharmaceutical Engineering Research Center" of Xinjiang Technical Institute of physics and Chemistry, and combines the advantages of the relevant research institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences. 

Focusing on Uzbekistan, integrating the characteristics and needs of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan, and through the cooperative layout of the combination of the general center and the sub – center, it aims to build a fully functional Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences for Central Asian Drug Research and Development, so as to become the national core platform of natural medicine scientific research and personnel training in central Asia. 

The center is led by the Xinjiang Technical Institute of Physic and Chemistry, the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SMM), Kunming Botanical Institute, Dalian institute of Chemical physics, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical physics, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Institute Northwest Plateau, etc. And other units to participate in the construction. The foreign cooperative units are the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, National University of Kazakhstan, etc. The construction sites are Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; Almaty, Kazakhstan.
