China’s First Internet Connection
Computer Network Information Center
In 1994, a 64K international specialized line was connected to the Internet from the Computer Network Information Center via the Sprint Corporation of the United States, achieving full-functionality Internet access for China.
In doing so, China became the 77th country in the world to have full-functionality Internet capabilities.
During this process, the researchers overcame a series of technical problems involving network communication protocol confirmation, optical fiber line construction, and router development, among others, thus laying a solid foundation for the final realization of full-functionality connectivity.
