Polypropylene Fiber: China's First Self-developed Chemical Fiber Product

Institute of Chemistry

The Institute of Chemistry successfully developed the "Cooling Masterbatch" technique for reducing the melt spinning temperature of polypropylene (PP) fiber in 1978 to better overcome limitations on land resources and make full use of abundant propylene resources from fast developing petrochemical industry. This promoted the development of ChinaPP fiber industry.

In 1982, the institute, in collaboration with enterprises, developed two types of fiber-grade PP resins, achieving stable industrial production. Based on the innovation of these PP resins, a series of new technologies of PP fiber spinning were developed, which greatly improved product quality and reduced fiber costs. The series of new technologies make the production of PP fiber in China among the world's front-runners.
