World’s First Self-circulating Evaporative Cooling Technology
Institute of Electrical Engineering
The Institute of Electrical Engineering started research on cooling large hydro-generators as early as the 1950s.
The evaporative cooling technology independently developed by the institute has now been applied in multiple major national projects and fields.
In the realm of large-scale hydroelectric power equipment, this technology has greatly improved the safety, reliability and economic efficiency of generators, thus extending their service life.
In 2011 and 2012, two 700MW evaporative cooling hydro-generators installed in the Three Gorges underground power station were connected to the grid.
This marked the first time that ambient temperature self-circulating evaporative cooling technology had been applied to the world’s largest capacity hydro-generators.
