Establishment of “Beijing Time”

National Time Service Center

In 1966, the National Time Service Center was established as the only scientific research institution in China specialized in basic and applied research on time and frequency.

Since its founding, the center has been responsible for generating, maintaining and disseminating China’s national standard time (Beijing Time).

The stability of the national standard time frequency generated and maintained by the center, as well as its weighted contribution to the calculation of International Atomic Time, has made it among the top three time institutions in the world.

The main performance of national standard time generated and maintained is among the top three in the world.

The center has also built China’s only integrated satellite-ground satellite navigation and timing test platform, which significantly supports the development of the national time and frequency system as well as the satellite navigation system.
