Permafrost Embankment Construction Technologies for the Qinghai-Xizang Railway Project
Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources
In the early 21st century, the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (now the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources), and other entities, conducted a comprehensive research on climate, permafrost, engineering, and the environment.
Based on this research, they creatively proposed a new design approach to cool the foundation and lower the temperature of permafrost. They carried out research on engineering technical measures and conducted engineering demonstrations, providing the scientific basis and design parameters for the construction of the Qinghai-Xizang Railway.
In addition, they developed a long-term monitoring platform to ensure the stability of the railway embankments built on permafrost, thereby supporting the long-term operation of the Qinghai-Xizang Railway and reducing its maintenance cost.
