Fendouzhe: China's First Full-ocean-depth Manned Submersible
Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering
In 2020, Fendouzhe, a full-ocean-depth manned submersible, successfully completed its standardized sea trials, which were organized by the Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering.
In addition, Fendouzhe dove to a depth of 10,909 meters and successfully reached the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench, setting a new record for China’s manned deep-sea submersibles.
These achievements represent the success of the sea trial for the 10,000-meter class Fendouzhe. They also show China’s capacity to explore any depth of the ocean with its own self-developed submersible, representing a significant breakthrough in the country’s deep-sea equipment and technology.
