Receiving station of resource satellites functions well

Aug 17, 2003

At a meeting held recently under the auspices of CAS Bureau of High-tech Research and Development, a panel of experts affirmed the achievements having scored by the Beijing Receiving Station of China's Resource Satellites. The panel concludes the performance of the Station is sound,  stable, reliable and compatible with the current development trend of the related technology in the world.

The Beijing station was established on the framework of a Miyun-based data-receiving outpost of the Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station (RSGS), an affiliate under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was inaugurated on October 14, 1999, in the wake of the successful blast-off of China's first earth-resource satellite.  The station is capable of collecting and recovering data accurately from an orbiting  satellite and this event marks the start of its operation.

Since then, the Beijing station has received a huge amount of first-hand data from China-launched Brazilian Earth Resources Satellite 1 (CBERS-1) and transmitted them rapidly to the centers for application of satellite-relayed data. Their operation effectively guarantees the timely supply of the remote-sensing information to its users in various fields, such as agriculture, forestry, water conservancy, environment management, urban development and disaster control, providing solid scientific grounds for the policy-makers in governmental departments and planners of the country's economic development.
