EKWENYE Uchechi   Biology Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Nigeria

Dr.Uchechi N. Ekwenye was born at Aba, Abia State, Nigeria in 1966. She is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Microbiology, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria.

Dr.Uchechi Ekwenye holds a B.Sc (Hons.) Biology, M.Sc Microbiology and Ph.D Microbiology(Microbial Biotechnology) from University of Lagos, University Ibadan and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Nigeria respectively. She attended certificate courses both in Nigeria and abroad. Worthy of mention is the one on High level Expression of Heterologous protein in yeasts at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB),New Delhi, India.

She is a member of many professional bodies among which are the Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Society for Microbiology, Third World Organization of Women in Science, Pan African Medical Mycology Society, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, International Society of Tropical Foresters and National Association of Women Academics.

She has 44 publications in reputable proceedings and peer reviewed journals. She has attended both local and International conferences and workshops where she presented Scientific papers. She won many merit awards which includes the International Union of Microbiological Societies Travel grant award, Award of conferences by African Network of Scientist and Technological Institutions, UNESCO Nairobi, Kenya, American Society for Microbiology-UNESCO Train the Trainers Scholarship for International Educators, Washinton.DC, USA, American Society for Microbiology-UNESCO Leadership Grant for International Educators, Washington, DC,USA and Distinguished Educational Leadership Award by Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria.

She is an Associate Editor of journal of Research in Biosciences and Editor, International Journal of Microbiology and Reviewers of many journals such as African Journal of Microbiological Research, International Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and Nigerian Food Journal.

She has successfully supervised 35 students for B.Sc(Hons.), M.Sc and Ph.D Microbiology.
