In order to promote networking and reinforce ties between Chinese junior scientists and German research facilities, it was agreed to establish Partner Groups in China in 1999. This represents an opportunity for young Chinese scientists to continue the projects they have begun together with Max Planck partners on their return to China, and to qualify for scientific management positions in China.
The Max Planck Society supports the Group heads by contributing to their salaries, while the Chinese partner provides the infrastructure and equipment, as well as funds as part of their internal junior scientist promotion programmes.
So far, the Max Planck Society has established a total of 33 Partner Groups in China, 12 of which are currently (01.01.2014) active. (MPG)
