Histone H3 lysine 9 acetylation (H3K9Ac) is an epigenetic mark representing transcriptionally active chromatin involved in various processes. However, it remains unclear how H3K9Ac participates in human neural development and neural fate determination. Dr. JING Naihe's group at Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences reported the dual roles of H3K9Ac in pluripotency maintenance and neural determination.

Phononic crystals (PCs) consisting of periodic elastic materials have a property of band gaps which have potential applications such as acoustic filter, waveguides and acoustic resonator. However, most of the prior research of PCs were limited to large and hand-assembled structures at frequencies below 1MHz.
Genetic engineering offers a feasible breeding strategy for Jatropha. The promoter plays an important role in plant genetic engineering as it initiates gene transcription and regulates gene expression temporally and spatially. Therefore, characterization of various promoters in Jatropha, including constitutive, tissue-specific or inducible promoters, is necessary for transgenic breeding. To find new effective promoters, Prof. XU Zengfu's team of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) of Chinese Academy of Sciences isolated the Jatropha ubiquitin extension protein gene (JcUEP) promoter from Jatropha and characterized it in Arabidopsis and Jatropha.
