"The Terrestrial Plant Resources in Guangzhou" Published

The Terrestrial Plant Resources in Guangzhou, a comprehensive and systematic survey monograph to the terrestrial wild plant resources in Guangzhou has recently been published by Guangdong Science and Technology Press.

Edited by Dr. WANG Ruijiang of South China Botanical Garden, the monograph is composed of nine chapters, which are: 1) the outline of the nature and plant resources in Guangzhou; 2) the biodiversity of the ferns; 3) the inventory of the seed plants and their constitution; 4) the floristics of seed plants and species diversity; 5) the plant vegetation; 6) the evaluation of wild seed plant resources; 7) present status and conservation strategy of the rare and endangered plants; 8) the allied invasive plants; and 9) the conservation and sustainable utilization of wild plant resources. The checklist of vascular plants in Guangzhou and the 17 color photos of the rare and endangered plants are also appended.

The monograph's publication marks the successful completion of the comprehensive and systematic survey to the terrestrial wild plant resources in Guangzhou. In addition, it is also the first time for a large city in China to launch such kind of synthetical investigation. The data and conclusions from the investigation can provide important theoretical and practical supports for the conservation and sustainable utilization of wild biodiversity resources in Guangzhou, improvement of the city civilization, and construction of ecological city during the development of urbanization.
