CCTV Dialogue: China searches for new ways in sci & tech development
TWAS's 12th General Conference and 23rd General Meeting is being held in Tianjin, China, between 18 and 21 September 2012. The theme of the conference is 'Science and Sustainability'. More than 400 leading members of the global scientific community are attending.
China has made great strides in a wide range of research areas, from mathematics to astronomy to genomics. As the largest scientific organization in China, the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) is a major driving force behind these advances. Through support and guidance from CAS, China is focused on building "big science" infrastructure, as well as on developing a talent pool of top notch scientists for the country.
On May 25, 2012, RIKEN and the Chinese Academy of Sciences celebrated 30 years of friendship and cooperation at a special event in Roppongi Academyhills in downtown Tokyo. The event was attended by a large delegation from RIKEN, headed by President Ryoji Noyori, and from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by President Bai Chunli.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced today that the 16th General Assembly of the Members of CAS and the 11th General Assembly of the Members of CAE will be held in Beijing June 11-15th, 2012. The two General Assemblies are held jointly by the CAS and the CAE biennially. As usual the assemblies will examine the biennial work reports of the CAS and the CAE respectively.
American geologist Lonnie G. Thompson, also foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), put forward suggestions for future development of CAS based on his years of work experience in China. He thought the Chinese Academy of Sciences should be commended on the recognition of the importance of science and scientist to the future well being and development of Chinese society.
