How to identify and make use of the genes that control the excellent agricultural traits with high efficiency is a challenge to rice researchers and rice breeders. Professor HAN Bin’s group in NCGR and BIG recently applied genome-wide association study (GWAS) and identified alleles controlling important agricultural traits directly in rice, instead of classical biparental cross-mapping method for dissecting complex traits.
Particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 micrometer (PM2.5) has aroused a heated debate in China recently. But do you know how particulate matter comes from? In fact, one of the main contributors of particulate matter is secondary inorganic particles (e.g. (NH4)2SO4, NH4NO3, and NH4Cl), which is the reaction of ammonia (NH3) and acidic species (e.g. H2SO4, HNO3, HCl).
China plans to develop its own new comprehensive system for monitoring and accurately calculating the country's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Ding Zhongli, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), said its creation will help the country find out exactly how much GHG it emits, knowledge which is an essential basis for China's carbon emission reduction efforts.
A team of researchers, led by Dr. YANG Huangtian, at the Institute of Health Science, Key Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology, CAS, identified a suitable cardiomyoycte inducer, ascorbic acid (AA) and established an universal, economical, and efficient system for producing cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) and functional cardiomyocytes from various mouse (m) and human (h) iPSCs lines.
China needs to build at least 10 more research vessels in the next five to 10 years to cater to the country's rising demand for marine exploration, especially in deep-sea areas, an oceanologist has said. About two-thirds of China's 15 major research vessels currently in operation -- most of which were built in the early 1980s -- are outdated...
