CAS Foreign Academician Passed Away at 90

    The renowned computing mechanics scientist Bian Xuehuang, also known as Theodore Hsueh-Huang Pian passed away on June 20, 2009 at the age of 90 in United States of America.

    T. H. H. Pian received his Ph. D at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1948 and was honoured tenured professor later on. He was a member of US National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

    Piao won the von Karman Memorial Contest in 1974 and received the Structures, Structrual Dynamics and Materials Award from American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1975. He also acted as the editor in chief for the International Journal of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
