Jun 16, 2009

The Institute of Mechanics (IMECH), Chinese Academy of Sciences has set up "Qian Xuesen National Engineering Science Experiment Base" in Beijing's Huairou District on June 12th.

Meanwhile, two national major projects for science and technology development ---- "Large Scale Oil-gas Field and Coal-bed Gas Developing Projects--" launch here as well as a "National Aerodynamics Research Item on High-speed Train".

On completion of the base, the two projects and aerodynamics program undertaken by IMECH will lead research of China's self-made mega experimental equipments and development of supporting testing techniques. Research, development and testing of related prototypes of the projects will also be the focus of the base.

Qian is one of the pioneers of China's space science. A world- famous expert on aerospace rockets and aerodynamics, Qian has obtained great attainments in the areas of applied mechanics, engineering cybernetics and system engineering and made distinguished contributions to the foundation and development of Chinese aerospace undertaking. He plays a leading role in the research, manufacture and testing of carrier rockets, guided missiles and satellites.
