NSFC Sets up Research Fund for Foreign Young Scholars

Mar 01, 2009

National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) recently sets up an overseas Young Scholar Research Fund to draw foreign scholars into China.

For many years in the past, Chin's research institutes and universities also have been working closely with their partners abroad. Now after years of heavy investments in basic research infrastructures, China is confident that it is ready to host foreign researchers to work within China. According to NSFC, this initiative answers to the demand for more support of international cooperation.

The mission of this initiative is to lay the foundation for future long-term collaboration by advancing foreign scholars' understanding of Chinese science and by broadening their knowledge of Chinese society and culture, said a leader of NSFC, "it is a strategy for the future."

According to NFCS, at the moment the fund will be open to young foreign scholars recommended by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) or by the Ministry of Education of China. It will support 50 scholars for a period of 6 to 12 months with a total funding of 10 million Yuan. Details for the plan and the application procedures will be released soon.

Applicants will be evaluated based on their training backgrounds, research potentials and academic achievements. And the research projects are expected to be at the frontier of their respective disciplines.
