Flagship project on floral genetics kicks off in Beijing

    With the support of the National Major Research Program during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), a research project on the molecular mechanisms for the maintenance and differentiation of plant stem cells was launched at the CAS Institute of Botany (IBCAS) on 24 November.

    The kick-off meeting brought together principle investigators of the project's subcomponents from IBCAS, the CAS Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Capital Normal University, South China Agriculture University, Tsinghua University, Shandong University, Shandong Agricultural University and Xiamen University. CAS Vice President LI Jiayang also attended the conference.

    The project is to be finished by August 2011. The budget for its first two years of implementation is 11.87 million yuan (about $1.6 million), according to chief scientist of the project HU Yuxin from the Center for Signal Transduction and Metabolomics under IBCAS.
