Renowned marine biologist receives Einstein visiting professorship

    Prof. Yonathan Zohar, Director of the Center of Marine Biotechnology (COMB), University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, received a certificate for prestigious CAS Albert Einstein Visiting Professorship on June 18 at the CAS Institute of Oceanology (QDIO) in Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province.

    Prof. Zohar is an international leader in the field of finfish reproductive endocrinology. He is considered one of the world's leading authorities in the field of comparative endocrinology and is widely recognized for his achievements in applying basic hormonal concepts to develop technologies for reproduction control and hatchery production in commercially important marine species. Under his leadership, COMB has become internationally known for its work covering aquaculture and fisheries biotechnology, marine functional genomics, microbial oceanography and extremophiles, marine environmental biotechnology and bioremediation, and marine natural products.

    Launched in 2004, the CAS Albert Einstein Visiting Professorship Program is designed to invites up to 30 world-class scientists each year to visit CAS for up to two weeks. Prof. Zohar is among 15 of winners of the program in 2006.
