Researchers of the CAS Institute of Plasma Physics have been successful in developing China's first prototype apparatus to sterilize medical appliance in low temperature with a plasma approach, marking an important step toward their plasma sterilization studies.
Plasma method is a future development orientation for the sterilization technology in such sectors as health, pharmaceutics, biotechnology and food. The system developed by CAS scientists could be used in room-temperature to both metal and non-metal devices with short sterilization time and low energy consumption. In addition, it could easily kill microbes inside tubing of the devices. Although the system costs about 50% lower that similar devices in the world market, tests have shown its performance is better.
