Commissioned by the Provincial Government of Guangdong, a panel of CAS Academic Divisions (CASAD) met from Dec.16 to 18 in Beijing to examine a report on the competitiveness of the high- and new-tech industries in the province. Senior CAS officials including Vice-President Yang Bailing, Vice Secretary-General Shen Baogen, and Director of the CAS Bureau of High-tech Industry Development Zhao Qin attended the conference.
The panel is composed of CAS members and scholars as well experts from Guangdong Province. Together with nine
ad hoc groups it will scrutinize an evaluation on the province's industrial strengths and weaknesses in such fields as informatics, materials, biomedicine, manufacturing, hi-tech parks, regional innovation systems, human resources, and culture.
The work has received much attention from CAS President Lu Yongxiang, notes Prof. Yang. The various kinds of cooperation between CAS and Guangdong in recent years have played an important role for the development of the both sides. He urged the panelists to make suggestions to address local difficulties starting from mechanism, system and projects.
