CAS conference for new member elections

The CAS 2003 conference to vote on new members opened on Nov. 3 in Beijing. More than 420 CAS members gathered to elect no more than 60 new members. CAS President Lu Yongxiang, who is also the president of CAS Presidium, delivered an important speech on challenges and opportunities facing the S&T community in China as a whole and CAS Academic Divisions in particular.


    The CAS 2003 conference to vote on new members opened on Nov. 3 in Beijing. More than 420 CAS members gathered to elect no more than 60 new members. CAS President Lu Yongxiang, who is also the president of CAS Presidium, delivered an important speech on challenges and opportunities facing the S&T community in China as a whole and CAS Academic Divisions (CASAD) in particular.

    CAS membership is the top academic title and honor of life tenure conferred by the State in science and technology. According to by-laws on CAS members, member elections are held under the auspices of the CASAD Standing Committees in five Divisions through differential secret ballots, the difference being 40% of the number of available vacancies.
