An E-session on science and society was organized during the TWAS 2003 meetings on Oct. 18 in Beijing.
Chaired by CAS Vice-President Bai Chunli, the meeting was broadcast live through the Internet. Three prestigious scientists, 1998 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry H. Michel, President of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences B. Alberts, and TWAS president C.N.R. Rao, made presentations on "Membrane Proteins as Targets for Drugs in Medicine and Agriculture," "An Ambitious Global Agenda for Science and for Scientists," and "the LDC Challenges: we shall overcome," respectively. At last, CAS President Lu Yongxiang made concluding remarks.
