CAS, NSFC Join Hands to Run Academic Journals

Dec 23, 2002

CAS president Lu Yongxiang signed an agreement on December 5 with Prof. Chen Jia'er, president of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) to jointly run three flagship academic journals in China.

Of the three journals, Science in China and Chinese Science Bulletin, are sponsored by CAS. Created as early as in the 1950s, they are considered as the top Chinese journals in natural science. Progress in Natural Science, started in 1990 by NSFC, is a key player in scientific publication in this country.

President Lu described the move as major event in China's circles of S&T publication, saying it will set a good example for other academic journals to deepen their reform efforts. "We should do a good job of redefining the respective missions of the three journals and make sure each has specific coverage of its own," says Lu.
