Lab Manager Position in Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology

Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology (PSC) is a new institution of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with joint funding from the Chinese central government, and the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences. PSC aims to become a world’s leading center for plant-related research. It will curate innovative, vibrant, and interactive research groups synergized by a battery of state-of-the-art core facilities including genomic, metabolomic, proteomic, microscopic and transformation facilities. 

The "Seed biology" group needs a lab manager  

Food security is one of the major challenges of the 21st century. Legumes are second only to cereals in importance to humans as a source of food. In this changing world, legumes play a crucial role in sustainable agriculture because they supply their own nitrogen via symbiosis. Therefore, legumes are important targets to optimize the amount and type of compounds produced and stored in the seed.  

Position Description 

The primary duty is to organize and manage an international laboratory. Training and mentoring students is part of the job as well as assisting and advising other lab members. After lab establishment, the candidate will also have the option to work independently on his/her own projects.  

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, organized, creative-thinker capable of independent thought and experimentation. Ability to communicate clearly, work independently, and interact collaboratively is essential. English and Chinese speaking, reading and writing skills are required.Successful completion of a PhD is preferred but not required. Experience in basic molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques will be highly advantageous. Position will be opened after October 1st (2013) but interested candidates should apply immediately.
