Two Positions Available at XTBG

1.Scientific Coordinator in biology and conservation

Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (Chinese Academy of Science) is seeking a dedicated individual to support training initiatives for young scientists in the tropical Asia-Pacific region. The Program for Field Studies in Tropical Asia (www.pfs-tropasia.org) runs workshops and fieldcourses targeted at graduate-entry level students, whose research focuses on the biology and conservation of the tropical Asia-Pacific region.

Responsibilities

The Scientific Coordinator will:

-     coordinate international fieldcourses and other training activities run by the program

-     act as point of contact between the office and course sponsor(s)/supportor(s)

-     arrange course teaching programs and coordinate with resource staff

-     coordinate logistic arrangements for courses with course hosts

-     oversee the running of courses

-     oversee course budgets and reporting to sponsors

-     oversee production of the course proceedings and scientific publications

-     maintain long-term datasets derived from course activities

-     oversee a program website, including online application procedures, course materials, alumni network and forums

-     assist in preparing funding proposals and in developing a sustainable long-term international training program

The Scientific Coordinator will be supported by one full-time program secretary and XTBG faculty. The position will involve opportunities for international travel and eventual publication of results from long-term projects. The position would be full-time for four years and based in the new research facilities at the XTGB. XTBG is rapidly expanding its international faculty, particularly its conservation activities, and will focus on developing strong collaborations with Southeast Asian countries over the next five years. Please visit our website at < http://en.xtbg.ac.cn>.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D or equivalent experience in ecology or conservation biology or related field, and be familiar with the tropical Asian region. Previous experience in teaching or participating in fieldcourses is a bonus.

2. Program coordinator

-     provide secretarial support for the Scientific Coordinator

-     manage email lists for the program and individual courses

-     communicate with sponsors, hosts, and resource staff over logistic arrangements, etc

-     manage an online applications procedure

-     provide assistance in running courses

-     provide assistance in the production of reports

-     provide day-to-day management of the program website

The Program Coordinator will report to the Scientific Coordinator. Qualifications
