IHB Professor LIU Yongding Awarded Commander Grade of French Republic’s Order of Academic Palms

Prof. LIU Yongding from the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHB), was awarded the Commander decoration, the highest grade of French Republic’s Order of Academic Palms on May 22, 2012.

The award was presented by Serge Lavroff, consul general of the Consulate General of France in Wuhan, Hubei province. Mr.Serge Lavroff fully affirmed LIU’s contribution to the promotion of Sino-French Cooperative studies in biology of cyanobacteria, water environment, and sand-consolidating cyanobacterial strains.

Prof. LIU is a scientist engaged in the study of environmental biology of algae and has achieved great accomplishments in the fields of algal biology, freshwater eutrophication and ecological restoration. He is the first Chinese scientist who has completed the pilot studies of the control of desertification by sand-consolidating cyanobacterial strains. He is also a key member in the pilot studies of controlled ecological life support system (CELSS) in the spacecraft invented by China.

The Order of Academic Palms, founded by EmperorNapoleon in 1808, is an Order of Chivalry of France for academics, cultural and educational experts. It comprises three grades: Commander, Officer and Knight.
