Prof. WU Guoxiong from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP, CAS) was elected an Honorary Fellow of Royal Meteorological Society, UK (RMetS) at its Council Meeting in February, 2012.

"The election reflects both his (WU’s) enormous achievements on the international arena and his special connection to the UK”, said RMetS’ president Prof. Tim Palmer.

The Fellowship will be conferred at RMetS’ Annual General Meeting on May 16, 2012.

RMetS was founded as the British Meteorological Society in 1850. It’s one of the most influential and authoritative academic societies in the world. It has a small number of Honorary Fellows that are elected by Council, the highest recognition that RmetS can give for distinguished service to meteorology.

He worked at IAP in 1985 and was elected as CAS academician in 1997. He is mainly engaged in weather dynamics, climate dynamics and atmospheric general circulation.
