1st CAS-HGF Workshop on Supercomputing Held in Beijing

The 1st CAS-HGF Workshop on Supercomputing was held in Beijing on Oct.12th. Prof. HUANG Xiangyang, director of Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, signed a MoU with Prof. Achim Bachem, Vice President of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. 

According to the MoU, the two sides will conduct cooperation in exchange of personnel for research, lectures and discussions, and also promote extensive cooperation on e-Science among CNIC-CAS,  Jülich , NCSA-UIUC, including co-sponsor an triangle workshop which called “CHANGES”, that is CHinese-AmericaN-German E-Science and cyberinfrastructure Workshop. The 1st CHANGES will be held in German in Aug. 2012. And three sides will organize CHANGES every year alternately. CHANGES will be a high-level platform on Cyberinfrastructure and E-Science to share updated academic thinking, sophisticated information technique and interdisciplinary applications among China, America and German, following ACCESS (The American-Chinese Cyberinfrastructure and E-Science workshop), which has been initiated by CNIC-CAS and NCSA-UIUC in 2009. 

The workshop includes three parallel sessions. Prof. TAN Tieniu, the deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Sebastian M. Schmidt, Member of the Board of Directors of  Jülich attended the worshop. About 35 presentations in the fields of high performance computing applications, computational mechanics, numerical simulation computing ect. were made by the scientists from both sides in two days. 

The workshop is organized by Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of CAS and  Helmholtz Associtaion of German Research Centers (HGF).
