China to bid for hosting a global meeting on conservation biology in 2009

During his meeting with Executive Director of the Society for Conservation Biology Alan D. Thornhill on Dec. 22 in Beijing, CAS Vice President CHEN Zhu said that CAS is interested in hosting the 23rd annual meeting of the Society in 2009 in Beijing.


    CAS is interested in hosting the 23rd annual meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) in 2009 in Beijing, says a high-ranking official of CAS.

    During his meeting with SCB Executive Director Alan D. Thornhill on Dec. 22 in Beijing, CAS Vice President CHEN Zhu told the SCB visitor that CAS will be very pleased to welcome biologists from across the world to attend the global meeting in Beijing. Holding such an important event will not only conducive to  strengthening the exchanges and cooperation between Chinese scholars and the international community, but also to raising the public awareness of environmental and ecological protection. and promoting sustainable development in this country.

    With a membership of more than 150,000, SCB is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity. Each year it organizes a global meeting for conservation biologists. Its 21st and 22nd annual meeting will be held in 2007 and 2008 in South Africa and the United States.
