China's first plasma pyrolysis system for solid waste operational

Dec 24, 2006

A research team from the CAS Institute of Mechanics has been recently successful in developing China's first plasma pyrolysis system for the destruction of solid chemical wastes.

By using the state-of-art torch and reactor technology in China, the system has a lot of advantages over the traditional waste incineration treatment. It's disposal rate for organics has reached 99.9% and its gas and hydrogen chloride discharges are well within the limit of national emission standards. The system could also convert organic wastes into commercially useful by-products like acids without producing toxic substance such as dioxin. Its residue is only slag rather than non-combustibles and fly ashes.

The apparatus passed the acceptance check by an expert panel under the auspices of the ZhongHao ChenGuang Research Institute of Chemical Industry on Oct. 27 in Zigong, Sichuan Province.
