Control System and Plug at CSNS Target System Developed

Nov 13, 2015

The China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) target system has achieved a milestone progress by accepting from the manufacturers its control system and the plug before welding from November 1 to 6, 2015.

The CSNS target control system is to monitor the target trolley, expansion flange and cooling water. In accordance with its needs, a perfect design with the required logic and interlocking system was made, emphasizing its safety and reliability.

The target trolley, running on the 17 meter-long track, is to carry the target plug which is to precisely position the relevant locations. The trolley and the plug are still in fabrication now but all the target plates and the vessel have been finished with all the specifications meeting the requirements.

The acceptance group had a site tour of the fabrications and reviewed the reports on the design, measurements, assemblies and so on. Though there are existing difficulties, most of the target components have been finished.

CHEN Yuanbo, associate director of the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and the head of the acceptance group, spoke highly of the work done so far and put forward suggestions and requirements upon the manufacturers, hoping the rest of the fabrications would be accelerated.
