Sea-Fishing Operation Test Proves Success for High Power LED Fish Luring Lamp Developed by IET

Oct 21, 2015

A sea-fishing operation test in Xisha sea area for 300W multi-COB (Chip on Board) LED fish luring lamp proved a success after a whole-month operation in August.

The technical and energy-saving lamp was developed by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics (IET) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and jointly completed by three other CAS institutes, the Institute of Semiconductors, the Institute of Electrical Engineering, and Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology.

For a fishing boat, the electric energy for sailing and lighting is powered by a marine diesel generator. Traditionally, the metal halide lamp is used for light-purse seine fishing, which is with the minimum power of 1000W for single lamp.

Usually, hundreds of metal halide lamps are installed on a fishing ship. It leads to huge electrical energy consumption. Apparently, fishing time and quantity are all seriously limited.

The 300W multi-COBLED fish luring lamp is primarily designed by using Micro-grooves Combined Phase-Change Cooling Technology developed by IET. The lamp is small in size, but with high luminous efficacy and low energy consumption, thus providing it excellent ability to lure marine fish.

The 300W multi-COB LED fish luring lamp was designed as side-lighting with total luminous flux of 30000 lumens. The lamp is less than two kilograms and with a volume smaller than a typical 1000W metal halide lamp.

Long lifetime and high lumen maintenance are realized by highly efficient cooling and by using special optical lens to make the greatest amount of luminous flux emitting from the LED source refracted into the seawater.

Its irradiation area, irradiation distance and effective average are superior to traditional 1000W metal halide lamp. The 300W LED lamp has an outstanding performance in penetrating sea fog and seawater.

For the sake of comparison test, twenty-eight 300W multi-COB LED fish luring lamps were installed on each side of the fishing ship with the original two hundred 1000W metal halide lamps remained in their previous places.

Light-luring purse seines fishing was conducted for several times under different lighting conditions separately. The final result shows that fishing production quantity for single net increases from 2000kg to 4000kg when using LED lamps lighting. It means that the light of LED lamp is more attractive to marine fish.

It is obvious that a fishing boat will save more than 70% electrical energy for light-luring illumination when 1000W metal halide lamp is placed with 300W LED lamp.
