China will accelerate its research on gravitational waves after their discovery last week. China's domestic research project, "Tianqin", is initiated by the Sun Yat-sen University in south China's Guangdong Province.

The project will cost about 15 billion yuan, or 2.3 billion US dollars. This will send three high-orbit satellites to detect the waves.

Another project is "AH-LEE," named after the Chinese Academy of Sciences Observatory in Ali, Tibet. Its aim is to detect the first tremors of the Big Bang and other primordial gravitational waves.
