In order to facilitate the study and solution of important scientific problems in climate modeling and prediction, a regular international forum "CAS-TWAS-WMO Forum" (CTWF) for Physico-Mathematical Problems Related to Climate Modeling and Prediction was jointly proposed and founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), for the advancement of science in developing countries and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 2000. The 14th CTWF will be composed of two parts - Data Assimilation Summer School to be held on 1-3 July, 2015 and the Coupled Data Assimilation Symposium on 5-8 July, 2015.

Objectives and Themes

The purpose of the Data Assimilation Summer School is to train graduate students and young scientists with comprehensive lectures by world leading scientists in various aspects of start-of-the-art data assimilation sciences ranging from theory to applications.

    The primary theme of the Coupled Data Assimilation (DA) Symposium is "coupled data assimilation" in which "coupling" can be broadly interpreted to three subject areas:

    (1) data assimilation for coupled systems that may include interactions among atmosphere, land, water, chemistry, biosphere, and human dimensions;

    (2) data assimilation that couples different temporal and/or spatial scales;

    (3) data assimilation that couples and/or hybridizes different DA methods.

Conference Format

The format of the conference will consist of a main line of invited lectures and selected plenary presentations covering the Data Assimilation Summer School and the Coupled Data Assimilation Symposium.
