China Releases Report on Global Engineering Frontiers

Dec 06, 2018

The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) released a report on the global frontiers of engineering science and technology Tuesday in Beijing.

The annual report, Engineering Fronts in 2018, was conducted by the Center for Strategic Studies, CAE, Higher Education Press and Clarivate Analytics.

The report analyzes pioneering engineering science and technologies on a global perspective. It is based on existing engineering scientific papers and patents.

It involves nine engineering fields including mechanical and vehicle engineering, information and electronic engineering and energy and mining engineering. It identifies 95 engineering research frontiers and 96 engineering development frontiers. Among them, 27 key engineering research frontiers and 27 key engineering development frontiers are selected for detailed interpretation.

CAE has conducted research on global engineering frontiers since 2017. It combines both quantitive and qualitative analysis, promoting deep integration of data analysis and expert advice. The research involves more than 1,000 researchers from around 100 research institutions.

According to CAE President Li Xiaohong, CAE will keep improving the research and pool wisdom of global engineering talents, providing a reference for the strategic layout of national engineering science and technology innovation. (Xinhua)
