China's first domestically-made submersible deep-sea drill completed its first trial run in the South China Sea on Sunday. The "Sea Bull" spent ten hours drilling 60 meters into the seabed under 3,000 meters of water.

China is now the fourth country to have this technology. The six-meter tall Sea Bull weighs eight tons and has a circumference of 10 meters. It went through rigorous compression tests before Sunday's trial.

An area the size of a finger nail needs to withstand 300 kilograms of pressure. The leader of the Sea Bull inspection team said the success will significantly boost Chinese deep sea technology. (CCTV.com)
