Lab Manager Position at Molecular Plant-Bacteria and Plant-Virus Interactions Groups

Sep 26, 2014

The Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology (PSC) is a recently established institution of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), with joint funding from the Chinese central government and CAS. PSC aims to become a world’s leading center for plant research. It fosters innovative, vibrant, and interactive research groups synergized by a battery of state-of-the-art core facilities including genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, microscopy and transformation facilities. PSC is located in the picturesque Chenshan Botanical Garden, just 25 miles away from the city center.

Position Description
The candidate will join two highly dynamic and interdisciplinary international labs, led by Alberto Macho and Rosa Lozano-Durán respectively. Laboratory experience with basic molecular biology, microscopy and protein biochemistry techniques is required. A PhD in the related discipline is required, and previous experience in managerial position would be welcome.

The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of laboratory management, including maintenance of equipment and laboratory reagent stocks, contact and acquisitions from external suppliers and contractors, and some new staff training.

The candidate will need high attention to detail in order ensure that resource management is planned effectively to maximize the labs’ efficiency. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential to this role as well as excellent English and Chinese speaking, reading and writing skills.

Position is available from November 2014.

Research Focus
Primary research interests of our groups are to understand how plants sense and respond to plant pathogenic bacteria and viruses. The researchers will follow multidisciplinary approaches, integrating genetics, proteomics, metabolomics, cell biology and biochemistry, to elucidate the cellular and molecular events underlying plant susceptibility to these microbe-caused diseases. In the medium term, the groups expect to work closely with breeders and biotechnologists to translate the findings to the field, ensuring that the research has an impact on plant protection and agriculture.

To Apply: Applications in English only. Please send your CV, cover letter, a short research statement (1 page max) and two reference letters to abchen@sibs.ac.cn
