TWOWS 4th General Assembly and International Conference to be Held in Beijing
 

TWOWS (Third World Organization for Women in Science) Fourth General Assembly and International Conference will take place in Beijing, China, 27-30 June 2010.

The theme of this important international Conference – Women Scientists in a Changing World - is expected to cover a critical range of socially relevant scientific topics of interest to the overall objectives of TWOWS. The themes include (1) Women scientists and frontier scientific advancement. (2) Women Scientists & Global Change. (3) Women, innovation and entrepreneurship, leadership capacity. (4) Gender mainstreaming in global science.

Leading scientists from developing countries will be invited to present keynote papers, followed by workshops with papers and discussions on the scientific contribution of women to these critical areas. Eminent women scientists from the South will present their research work, stressing policy issues pertaining to the participation of women in science and technology in their countries.

The Conference is hosted by Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Third World Organization for Women in Science (TWOWS) and Academy of Sciences in the Developing World (TWAS).  

Hosting the TWOWS Fourth General Assembly and International Conference will help to promote Chinese women scientists’ communication and cooperation with their international counterparts, raise their profile on the international stage and enhance their influence, promote the south-south cooperation and boost the science and technology development in the third world.

TWOWS is an independent, non-profit and non-governmental body based at the offices of TWAS, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World. It is the first international forum to unite eminent women scientists from the South with the objective of strengthening their role in the development process and promoting their representation in scientific and technological leadership.
