China and TWOWS

In the past few years, China and The Third World Organization for Women in Science (TWOWS) have maintained close relationship and carried out extensive cooperation. Currently China has more than 40 TWOWS members. During the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing 1995, the All-China Women's Federation had supported TWOWS to hold the symposium on "Past and Future Development” in Huairou District. More than 80 women participants attended the important event.

Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is one of the founding members of TWOWS. The former Vice President of CAS, Academician Hu Qiheng had served as a TWOWS executive board member. And Prof. Fang Xin, Member of Presidium, CAS, was elected Vice Chairman at the TWOWS Third General Assembly in Bangalore November 2005. In August 2007, the TWOWS Executive Board (EB) meeting was held in Beijing, in which EB members from 9 countries precipitated and decided that the Fourth General Assembly of TWOWS would be held in Beijing, June 2010. CAS and TWOWS signed CAS-TWOWS fellowship training program in July 2008, which received high appreciation from developing countries.

Participating in TWOWS activities is conducive to our women scientists’ cooperation and exchange with international counterparts, enhancing their influence in international organizations and promoting their display on the international stage.
