The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced today that the 16th General Assembly of the Members of CAS and the 11th General Assembly of the Members of CAE will be held in Beijing June 11-15th, 2012.

The two General Assemblies are held jointly by the CAS and the CAE biennially. As usual the assemblies will examine the biennial work reports of the CAS and the CAE respectively.

The presidium of the CAS academic divisions, the standing committees of the CAS academic divisions will carry out elections at expiration of office terms at this assembly. Also, CAE will discuss the report on Building National Science Think Tank.

The assemblies will also issue certificates to new-elected academicians and confer the Tan Kah Kee Science Award and China Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award.

The CAS has six academic divisions and currently 723 academicians and 64 foreign academicians, among whom 574 of all home academicians and 16 foreign academicians will attend the biennial General Assembly.

There are nine academic divisions in the CAE. CAE has now 774 academicians and 41 foreign academicians, among whom 647 of all home academicians and 17 foreign academicians will attend the General Assembly.
