China-Thailand Joint Laboratory on Microbial Biotechnology was officially launched on October 19, 2018. The Joint Laboratory aims to promote academic cooperation between China and Thailand in the field of microbial biotechnology and the development and industrialization of microorganisms, and to enhance bilateral cultural and academic exchanges between the two countries,

Jointly established by Institute of Microbiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), and National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), a member of National Science And Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the joint Laboratory mainly focuses on providing support for the microorganisms in order to solve major problems concerning human health, environment, resources, etc.

Besides, a Document of Understanding on CAS-NSTDA Joint Program under the platform of this Joint Lab was signed. The content involves biodiversity & biotechnology, agriculture, material science and technology, computational science and technology, and railway-related science and technology.

The cooperation of these three institutes can be traced back to the year 2015 and they signed a MoU on China-Thailand Joint Laboratory on Microbial Biotechnology in Bangkok on December 8, 2017. They have been engaging in research in many microbial biotechnology fields, particularly in the establishment and management of microbial database.
