At the end of 2008, CAS has 50,300 regular staff. Among them, female staff amounted to 16,100, accounting for 32.0% and equal to that of the previous year.
Professional personnel amounted to 37,500, accounting for 74.6% of regular staff, including 14,800 associate professors or equivalent and full professors (full professor amounted to 5,600) and 15,100 middle-level professional personnel, accounting for 39.5 %(full professor level 14.9%) and 40.3% of professional personnel respectively.Personnel with PhD degree account for 23.0% of regular staff. Personnel with Master degree account for 18.1%.Personnel under 30 years old account for 22.2% with the highest proportion. Personnel with age 41-45 are the next, account for 17.4%, followed by personnel with age between 31-35 and 51-55, which account for 14.4% and 13.8% respectively. |

Founded in 1955, the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD) is China’s highest advisory body in science and technology. It is charged with advising the State on the formulation of science and technology (S&T) development programs and plans and on the major S&T decision-making, providing study reports on S&T issues that are pivotal to the country’s economic construction and social development, offering proposals on the strategies and medium- and long-term targets for the development of academic disciplines, and providing evaluation and guidance with regard to academic issues concerning research institutions and in important research fields. At the end of 2008, there were 692 CAS members, including 40 female members, 134 from Division of Mathematics and Physics, 120 from Division of Chemistry, 124 from Division of Life Sciences and Medical Sciences, 113 from Division of Earth Sciences, 79 from Division of Information Technological Sciences, 122 from Division of Technological Sciences, and 51 foreign members. |
