Dr. Sbrand van de Zwaag, Professor and Chair in Fundamentals of Advanced Materials, Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands, visited Institute of Metal Research Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR) on 25-26 January 2010 as a recipient of 2009 Lee Hsun Lecture Award.
Prof. van de Zwaag delivered a lecture entitled as Self Healing Materials: A New Approach to Make Materials Perform Better. Before the lecture, Prof. TAN Ruobing, deputy director of IMR, presented the Plaque of Lee Hsun Lecture Award to Prof. van de Zwaag.
During his visit in IMR, Prof. van de Zwaag also had a discussion with the Advanced Structural Steels Group of Specialized Materials and Devices Division, IMR.
Prof. van de Zwaag got his PhD of Applied Physics in Cambridge University, UK. He has a wide research interests including physical metallurgy, high performance fibres and matrix polymers, high strength metals, and self healing of materials. He has published more than 250 articles and more than 200 articles in conference proceedings. He was awarded a number of awards offered by academic associations, including Werner-Koster Price of DGM, ASM-Buehler Award for Material Characterization and DPI Polymer Innovation Award.
