China to Invest Big to Support Beidou System [ 20.05.13 ]
China is expected to invest 7 billion yuan ($1.13 billion) to support the development of industries related to the country's Beidou satellite navigation system before 2015, an industry insider said. Industry experts estimated that the Beidou system may unleash a potential market worth 225 billion yuan, which may be the reason for the country's surging investments in the project.
 
China to Increase Input on the Arctic [ 16.05.13 ]
China pledged increased cooperation and contribution to peaceful and sustainable development in the Arctic as it was granted observer status by the Arctic Council on Wednesday. China "appreciates and welcomes" the council's decision, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said in a statement.
 
Designers: Beidou Progressing at Rapid Pace [ 15.05.13 ]

Around China: Jiaolong Poised for South China Sea Mission [ 10.05.13 ]
Three oceanauts of China's manned submersible, the Jiaolong, are studying geographic and biodiversity data of the South China Sea as they prepare for the sub's first scientific deep-sea mission in June. The crew are expected to leave Qingdao, a port city in east China's Shandong Province, for the 103-day mission on June 5.
 
China Prepares to Spend Billions on Science and Technology [ 02.05.13 ]
Sixteen science and technology projects will receive big infrastructure investments in China, the country’s State Council announced on 23 February. The competitively selected upgrades and new facilities focus on such topics as energy, nuclear waste, materials science, ocean surveys, and astroparticle physics.
