Agriculture in China Predates Domesticated Rice: Discovery of Ancient Diet Sh... [ 20.05.13 ]
Archaeologists have made a discovery in southern subtropical China which could revolutionise thinking about how ancient humans lived in the region. They have uncovered evidence for the first time that people living in Xincun 5,000 years ago may have practised agriculture -- before the arrival of domesticated rice in the region.
 
Chinese Scientists Unravel Sperm New Inheritance Contribution to the Offspring [ 15.05.13 ]
The research team found that paternal methylome pattern is stably maintained in the offspring’s embryos, while maternal methylome is discarded and reprogrammed progressively to become sperm methylome. The study illustrates that sperm, but not oocyte, methylome is inherited by zebrafish early embryos.
 
China Conducts Scientific Probe in High-altitude Atmosphere [ 15.05.13 ]
Chinese scientists on Monday conducted an experiment in the high-altitude atmosphere and near-Earth space with the launch of a sounding rocket, it was confirmed on Tuesday. The National Space Science Center (NSSC) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences said the rocket was launched at 9 p.m. Monday from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China.
 
Sacred Lotus - Ancient Chinese Secret Genome Sequence Enlightens Scientists [ 13.05.13 ]
The sacred lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is a symbol of spiritual purity and longevity. Its seeds can survive up to 1,300 years, its petals and leaves repel grime and water, and its flowers generate heat to attract pollinators. Now researchers report in the journal Genome Biology that they have sequenced the lotus genome, and the results offer insight into the heart of some of its mysteries.
 
Monitoring Shows Quake-hit Zone Restored after Five Years [ 13.05.13 ]
The images show that the townships of Wenchuan County in southwest China's Sichuan Province have been rebuilt, said a report from the Beijing-based Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which has monitored the quake zone environment through remote sensing images since 2008.
 
Printing Electronics Just Got Easier [ 10.05.13 ]
A new technique developed by researchers in China allows easier printing of electronic components onto paper. Jing Liu, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, said his team's advance—published May 9 in the journalScientific Reports—could be a leap forward in the booming business of printed electronics.
