CAS Hugs Headquarters Institutional Reform on Scientific Research Management [ 17.05.13 ]
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), a leading academic institution and comprehensive research and development center in natural science, technological science and high-tech innovation in China, launches an institutional reform in the headquarters on science and development management this week.
 
2 Mini-spider Species Found in Southwest China [ 23.05.13 ]
The tiny new spiders are both less than 2 millimeters in length. One of them, Trogloneta yuensis, is as little as 1.01 millimeters, and the other, Mysmena wawuensis, is measured to be the even tinier 0.75 millimeter, which classes it among the smallest spiders known.

To study early dog domestication, a team of researchers led by Dr. WANG Guodong and Dr. ZHANG Yaping of the Kunming Institute of Zoology sequenced the genomes of four grey wolves from across Eurasia, three indigenous dogs from Southwest China, and three representatives of modern dog breeds.

Mt. Everest Ice Cores to Offer Glimpse into Climate Change [ 21.05.13 ]
Chinese scientists have succeeded in obtaining three ice cores from Mt. Qomolangma (Mt. Everest), with aims to study climate change, an expedition leader said Monday. During the expedition that lasted more than one month, scientists drilled the ice cores at a mountain pass near the East Rongbuk glacier, which covers the north collar of Mt. Everest, said Kang Shichang.

Archaeologists have made a discovery in southern subtropical China which could revolutionise thinking about how ancient humans lived in the region. They have uncovered evidence for the first time that people living in Xincun 5,000 years ago may have practised agriculture -- before the arrival of domesticated rice in the region.
